Goodbye 2022, Hello 2023

2022 wasn't my best year. I have to admit, I didn't achieve any of my goals this year because of my choices. Acknowledging the reasons why my goals weren't met will help me in 2023 and beyond. Reflection of the past is beneficial for growth. I believe my transparency will help others, therefore I hope my personal evaluation will ignite a deep reflection of 2022 for everyone reading this post.

The mistakes I made in 2022

  1. Priorities were wrong: I didn't put my mental, spiritual or physical health first. I put everyone first which caused me to feel empty mid-way through the year. I was drained, overwhelmed, and tired.

  2. Discipline: I didn't stick to a budget, I didn't stick with exercising consistently, I didn't stick with eating healthy. I didn't stick with reading more.

  3. Distractions: I spent time trying to love and help people that didn't want either of those things. It was a huge distraction.

  4. God's will: I didn't whole heartedly seek God's will in 2022. I tried to do everything on my own until I couldn't handle it anymore. I involved God last in decisions, instead of first.

In 2022 I did learn more about unconditional love. I learned hands-on the definition of this type of love. Unconditional love doesn't mean putting up with being in a bad relationship. It's okay to love people from a distance.

It's okay to have unconditional love toward oneself. I learned to truly be patient and forgive myself for past mistakes. I had to love myself enough to walk away from something that wasn't showing me the love I was giving out.

I unconditionally loved my dad in his final days. I had to quickly forgive, apologize, and love him to take care of him. It was healing for our relationship before he went on to heaven.

Unconditional love heals broken families. The Bible is clear, "And above all things have fervent love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sins." 1 Peter 4:8 NKJ. The word fervent means passionate, my own translation is genuine. Genuine love toward a person will cause them to change their attitude toward others. Something happens spiritually when a person feels loved. Love is freeing and contagious.

My goal for 2023 is to continue to show unconditional love toward myself and others. This goal has a lot of sub-categories that I'm not going to list, but it is the summary of the actions I plan on doing in 2023.

I pray everyone has a blessed and safe New Year celebration.
